Maine Relocation

We have been in Maine for several weeks now......and we love it. Wow......is the first thing that comes to mind. I really think this is the perfect place for our family, and our farm.

We bought 50 acres in Vassalboro, ME. That is about 15 minutes from Augusta and about 40 minutes from Unity College, where Dylan will be working. The land is half open and half wooded, and it is beautiful. Webber Pond is right across the road from the house; a lake filled with the joys of boats, fishing, kayaks and sea planes (well, just one of those, I think). There is a barn that really couldn't be more perfect, even though its just a tad bit creepy. I am sure that feeling will pass as soon as we fill it with animals. The house is a farmhouse built around 1900, and we are having "fun" updating our new space. Fun is used very loosely because I tend to like the completed renovation and don't care much at all for the planning phase of it.

We now have 12 chickens (they are around six weeks old). We brought them home around 9:30 the night before Father's Day. Can't say Dylan was very excited about that at first (really furious would be a good word to use) but he is now. :) We had nowhere to put them, so a makeshift coop had to be built the following day. We are in the planning phases of building another moveable coop, much like the one we used in Louisiana.  Too bad it wouldn't stand up to a move across the country!!  The chickens are a cross between Rhode Island Reds and Silver Laced chickens. We are very much enjoying having chickens around again and can't wait until we have eggs!!!!!

We have lots of things in the ground! We are used to how fast things grow in Louisiana so everything looks tiny to us right now. :)  We actually had a lot of fun today going to a couple local greenhouses.  We stocked up on rhubarb, herbs and and a few flowers for Eilah's garden...as well as several vegetable plants (why not?).

We are planning to have the farm up and running again by next spring. And hopefully this year we can even sell (at least) pumpkins and watermelons roadside.

This is a very exciting time for us right now....and very busy. Thank you all for the support!!
