Dylan built a very cool sign to use for roadside advertising. Once completed, he had it set up in the farm store for me to check it out. I saw it and of course got really excited. We had store hours the next day, so I couldn't wait to write something on it. I grabbed the bag of chalk and started writing "Kale"......really big....at the top of one side. Dylan is sitting quietly in the rocking chair just looking at the sign with his head slightly tilted (which means that he doesn't totally agree with with I'm doing, but doesn't quite disagree enough to say anything yet...). Seeing this, I said, "What? What's wrong with it?". He just looked at me for a minute then said, "I'm not really sure kale is going to draw people in. Maybe you should rearrange it....so that's not the first...biggest thing they see?". I argued that I would TOTALLY stop somewhere for kale...and be REALLY excited about it too. He said okay and kind of laughed. We did agree to write his suggestion on the other side (something like "salad greens, eggs, and herb plants...).
It was an ongoing joke between us throughout the day. Like "I bet we're getting all these customers because you advertised we had kale"...when there was no one in the store at the moment. Ha. SO funny.
And the day went on...and the joke kind of faded.
THEN TODAY, around 11 this morning a truck pulls in the driveway and drives up to the barn. I saw it pull in and asked Dylan to deal with it because I was getting ready to head out to take recycles to the dump. As I'm walking out with the kids, I overhear Dylan saying "....is there anything particular you were looking for? We're usually only open on Saturdays". I jump right in (marketing/business background at work) and politely ask the gentleman to follow me into the farm store because we have leftovers from the day before. COME TO FIND OUT HE WAS LOOKING FOR...........................................kale. His daughter decided she wanted to make a stir fry...and needed kale...and HE SAW THE SIGN YESTERDAY and came by. :)
Glad the sign's working like it should.
Dylan and Harmony, whichever of us have the time to sit down and write for a few minutes. : )
