Our two oldest children can often be seen with something green hanging out of their mouths. If you saw Kade (our nine year old) at the market stand last season I am sure he rarely didn't have a a mouthful of cucumber (his absolute favorite!!)........Just the other day we were out in the garden beds and Eilah (our 2-year old) was grazing on cilantro that had been overwintered and is starting to go to seed. This time of year they graze on radishes, collards and even the wild edibles (wood violets, wild onions, etc.).
Our 6 month old son has yet to get on this band wagon. Maybe its because he has yet to cut any teeth???? Harmony and I and the kids were out taking some pictures and checking out the crops the other day and Basil (our youngest son) was on my hip. Kade and Eilah were off on their usual grazing routine (I think Eilah ate enough catnip to turn into a cat!!) but Basil was left without a veggie in hand. He has been teething the last couple of weeks so he wants to chew on everthing and I mean everything. So as we passed by the asparagus bed I plucked a spear and gave it to him. You would have thought he died and went to heaven. He started gnawing on that spear like it was peaches and candy!!! We finally had to take it away from him when he started trying to eat gnawed chunks of it. Apparently if you start them young they will love their veggies.......and maybe just maybe we should patent the use of asparagus spears for teething infants and toddlers :)
Dylan and Harmony, whichever of us have the time to sit down and write for a few minutes. : )
