Sooooo sweet!!!! No really......I got my first pineapple to plant today!!!! I have been asking Harmony to pick me up some pineapples every time she goes to the store for a while now. It never materialized though.....until today!! She found three pineapples at the store....two looked half rotten but the third looked pretty good. It is a bonus that we get to eat the pineapple, but the real treat is the crown (the leaves on the top of the pineapple..the crown). This is the first of many that will be planted with the orange trees in the citrus house down by the barn.
It is really easy to grow a pineapple from a crown of a store bought pineapple. Twist or cut the crown off the top of the pineapple, remove all residual fruit flesh, take off a couple of the lower leaves and plant the crown in soil (this can be in a pot or in the ground). From crowns it takes approximately 24 months to produce a fruit........but is that not worth it!!!!!! Yum!!!! I am going to plant as many as I can get my hands on........whoever heard of pineapple grown in Louisiana??????
Now that is SWEET!!!!
Dylan and Harmony, whichever of us have the time to sit down and write for a few minutes. : )
