Dylan planted the first round of sugar snap peas on February 19th. 6 rows of them, 75 ft each. He actually complained about it when he was finished...which is pretty uncharacteristic of him.
On Monday, I had noticed a ton of crows (okay..more like 5 or 6) in the garden beds, but didn't think much of it. We have so many birds on the property that it didn't seem like a big deal.
He went out yesterday to check to see what was going on with them, as the germination wasn't very good. This could be for a number of reasons (soil condition, seed quality, etc.). He comes back in the house and says, "The crows ate my peas!", and in fact, they had. Almost 2 1/2 pounds of seeds. When I told him about seeing the birds earlier this week, he looked at me like, "..and you didn't tell me this because...?".
He grudgingly went back out and replanted the 6 rows of peas...which he was even more unhappy about the second time around.
I told him when he came back in that the crows were all sitting in the trees watching him waiting to eat the seeds again. He said I was crazy.
I guess we'll see.
Dylan and Harmony, whichever of us have the time to sit down and write for a few minutes. : )
